American Cancer Society: 80% by 2018 National Achievement Award
One of seven honorees nationwide, Partnership for a Healthy Lincoln received the 80% by 2018 National Achievement Award in community leadership for the Nebraska Physicians Cancer Screening Initiative (NPCSI) from the the National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable (NCCRT), an organization co-founded by the American Cancer Society and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The Nebraska Physicians Cancer Screening Project worked to save lives through early detection of breast and colon cancers, catching them in their earlier, more treatable forms. Participating primary care clinics launched systematic efforts within their clinics to encourage and promote screening among their patients through outreach and in office consultation, achieving 80% or more of patients screened. Lincoln Journal Star Editorial, 2015:
In a 2015 editorial entitled "Cheers for Fitness", the Lincoln Journal Star lauded the accomplishments of Partnership for a Healthy Lincoln and our PICH grant partners in achieving the national Healthy People 2020 goals six years ahead of schedule.
Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, 2015
In 2015, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), America’s largest philanthropy devoted solely to the public's health, recognized the city of Lincoln, the work of Partnership for a Healthy Lincoln and our partners, WorkWell, Lincoln Lancaster County Health Department, and the LPS Wellness Program, for progress made locally in addressing the nationwide obesity epidemic. Journal of Pediatrics, 2013
In 2013, the Journal of Pediatrics featured the work and published the study done by Dr. Bob Rauner, President of Partnership for a Healthy Lincoln and colleagues on the relationship of fitness to academics.
Grant Awards
Partnerships In Community Health (PICH)
In 2014, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention awarded Partnership for a Healthy Lincoln a three year, $2 million PICH grant (through 2017), one of only 39 awarded nationally. With this award, we helped support coordinated health improvement projects with 13 other community organizations to achieve measurable improvements in nutrition, physical fitness, and reduce obesity-related chronic disease in Lincoln and Lancaster County.
Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH)
In 2018, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention awarded Partnership for a Healthy Lincoln a five-year, $3.3 million REACH grant, one of only 31 awarded nationally. This award helped support coordinated health improvement projects that addressed significant disparities in health outcomes within Lincoln’s minority communities and low income neighborhoods, through nutrition, physical activity, and aligning healthcare providers and community outreach efforts to connect patients with health resources.
